Adventures in Research: Issue 2

A big thank you to everyone who reached out after we sent our inaugural issue of Adventures in Research. We appreciate all the kind words. Please share the newsletter with anyone you think would be interested. (We also have a sign-up form on our website.)

We know it’s a hectic time of year for everyone, so we’re keeping this opening letter short and sweet.

Let’s get to the good stuff.

Winning with better data: How to generate strong metrics to secure funding

In this article published in MassNonprofit News, we outline five steps that will set organizations on the right path toward generating the metrics they need to secure the funding their organizations deserve.

What We’re Geeking Out About . . .

We recently presented at the Boston Area Research Initiative (BARI) annual conference, where we met gaggles of fellow research enthusiasts who filled our research-loving cups. (That’s Alicia Lynch presenting below.)

We were proud to present findings from our work with Dr. Jonathan F. Zaff from the BU Wheelock College of Education & Human Development.

The research resulted from a multi-year partnership between the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services (DYS) and the Mass. Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to better understand educational trajectories among justice-involved youth in Massachusetts. This partnership represents the first time in state history that data from DYS and DESE has ever been integrated. Kind of a big deal.

A special shout-out to Dr. Jon Zaff, a longtime client (and friend!) who served as the catalyst for the work and led the partnership.

Tonya Glantz

Client Spotlight

We’re passionate about research that makes an IMPACT. Knowing that our work makes a difference in people’s lives is what gets us out of bed in the morning. (Well, that and a LOT of cold brew.)

With the recent release of a battery of studies highlighting the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on adolescent mental health, we’re particularly proud to be working with Dr. Tonya Glantz at Rhode Island College to evaluate a school-based mental health workforce development and training program that aims to increase the number of mental health service providers in school districts with demonstrated need.

Dr. Glantz and her team are improving children’s lives by building a workforce that will serve Rhode Island’s future. At a recent event, graduate student trainees and service providers convened to celebrate their shared vision for school-based mental health teams. The theme of the day was collaboration and teamwork. “What we are doing collectively is always for the good of the kids,” said one panelist. “Sometimes you have to step out of your own role and collaborate for the sake of the child.” We could not be more honored to be part of the action.

We Love Referrals

Our business is almost 100% referrals from our incredible network of researchers and evaluators in the youth development space. Do you know a Director of Research & Evaluation with big dreams but a small team? We can add the extra capacity to support a mighty project. Or, do you know a Principal Investigator who needs methodological or statistical expertise to take their grant work to the next level? Send them our way!

What’s Next For Us

We have a busy (and exciting!) summer ahead of us that includes work with truly exceptional clients at Boston University, Wellesley College, Tufts University, University of Connecticut, Rhode Island College, LXD Research, Thriving Together, Jewish Big Brother Big Sister . . . and more!

Do you want to set up a time to talk about your next project? Have a burning methodological or statistical question that you want to overanalyze with us? Grab time on our calendars. We’re truly always eager to connect.

Wishing you a great summer,
The Team at Lynch Research Associates

Best. Birthday. Present. EVER.

We love this T-shirt that Kristina Callina gave Alicia Lynch on her birthday. 🙂
